It is our pleasure to feature one of The Simple Good Associate Board Member’s, Reeba Jacob. Reeba loves the city of Chicago and hopes to inspire the children of Chicago and all over the world to recognize the goodness all around them. She has a background in marketing and science. She aims to help expand the program globally to help children all over the world to recognize the goodness all around them. For more information about Reeba, please read our interview with her below.

Where are you from and what brought you to Chicago? I was born in South India and my family moved to the Chicago suburbs when I was 10 years old. I fell in love with Chicago during the many weekend trips I took to the city while in college, so I decided to move up here 3 years ago.

What is your professional background? I work in pharmaceutical marketing, but my research and educational background are in the biological sciences.

How do you connect to the arts? I’ve loved to draw since I was a young child. When I am inspired, I can spend hours capturing what I see around me on paper. It brings me a sense of joy and peace that is hard to describe.

What has it meant to you to be a member of The Simple Good board? It has been an incredibly rewarding experience to be a board member with The Simple Good (TSG). The services TSG provides is truly unique and I am excited just to be part of it.

Why do you think art is important for youth in Chicago? Change often starts with the young. My hope is that by inspiring our young people to recognize the goodness all around them, we can kick-start change that starts from the inside out.

What impact have you seen being made by The Simple Good? This year has been especially successful for TSG. We’ve managed to expand our programming to reach almost 2x the number of students as in 2017. I’m especially excited for us expanding internationally, especially as we set to bring Project Building Hope — a collaboration between TSG and a partner organization — to Uganda.

What does ‘the simple good’ mean to you? My Simple Good for today is knowing that there are incredible people like Priya and my fellow board members who are devoted to making our communities thrive, one program at a time.

Anything else you would like to add? We are still fundraising for our 3rd Annual Building Hope Project. You can still help us bring hope & healing to children of former child soldiers in Uganda by donating through this link. https://publicgood.com/org/simple-good/campaign/building-hope-project-part-iii-uganda
